Management Training Programme

Policy
Samartex is committed to developing the skills and management expertise of young university and polytechnic graduates and to provide them with opportunities for advancement and promotion within the Company’s management structure.
Eligibility
Fresh University and Polytechnic graduates who exhibit signs of leadership at interviews shall be designated Management Trainees when selected.
Purpose
The Management Training Programme shall be business driven and programmes shall be formulated to satisfy the business needs of Samartex. The process will ensure that the right person with the necessary competence, both technical and personal, is prepared for the right job at the right time.
Scope and duration of Training
All Management Training programmes shall be based on a training template developed by the head of department in collaboration with the HR Department. Besides the development of technical skills, trainees shall undergo basic managerial and leadership skills training.
All Management Training programmes shall be for a minimum of 2 years.
Assessment
A committee made up of the HR Manager, the relevant head of department and the General Manager shall assess trainees after every six months to determine their progression to the next stage of training.
Progression
Advancement of Management Trainees into the Samartex Management structure shall be based on the trainee’s technical and/or professional qualifications, commitment and competence. Trainees would not be promoted based on seniority or any other basis that will compromise the effectiveness and efficiency of the operation.
Management Trainee Programme
The programme offers career progression, adds value, develops the person´s potential to become a member of a leading firm's management team.
So far 15 trainees have sucessfully finished their training programmes with some occupying key management positions.
The programme is well suited for fresh graduates from the universities and polytechnics in any profession.

Preselection from schools
In the near future recruitment into the Management Trainee Programme will begin with career counselling in the schools from which Samartex may preselect candidates at a very early stage for better planning purposes.
Another step is that the National Service would form part of the programme.
