Currently Samartex is undertaking intensive research into the potentials of plants capable of serving as an additional income for resource-poor farmers.

Further processing of Griffonia diversifolia for e.g. and other plants from which various essential oils may be derived, as well as the creation of new markets e.g. mahogany bark, are some of the projects currently being tackled.

Other plants significant to this research include Rattan, Anatto, Voacanga, Cane and many others.
